This section of the Fresh Quality Guide
is devoted to specific fresh products. To ensure the quality
of fresh produce on the European market, marketing standards
provide specific legally binding requirements of certain
fresh produce on the EU market and to exports. Where EU standards
do not exist, UNECE or Codex standards are to be consulted
for internationally accepted product standards.
In addition to the specific marketing
standards listed by crop, this section also lists EU harmonised
pesticide maximum residue levels (MRLs) for crop and active
substance combinations.
Several food additives, other than colours
and sweeteners, are authorised for use (often post-harvest)
on certain fruits. These can be found in the general section under
food additives.
